What is Moby trying to be?

What is Moby trying to be?

Moby is trying to be

A free wall that communities gather around. An inspiring moment that gets captured when no one else looked closer. Moby is a moving moment of masterpieces that make up the walls of him. Moby features both house installations as well as installations from other muralists. Moby invites artists of all statures and all walks to participate with Spray Moby, unapologetically.

The key to good art is lack of restraint between creator and canvas. Moby exists as a free wall for a freedom of ideas to flow onto the canvas. For artists the only restraint is their own creativity and the physical capabilities of the cans they spray with. By supporting artists to create with this freedom, we hope to keep the free wall with as few restrictions as possible. By doing this we hope to bridge the gap to someone learning to graffiti for the first time, in a space where mural kings play.

I hope Moby will one day

Be the medium that introduces someone to street art. I hope Moby can act as a rolling billboard for the street art community of the cities Moby is touring. Moby originates from Grand Rapids Michigan, but in the coming months, hopes to be installed in various cities around Michigan.

Moby will follow art fair patterns from east to west Michigan, hoping to be exposed to large crowds of people who love street art. By being in the cities hosting art fairs, we hope to expose Moby to more artists who want to paint him, thus furthering Moby's roots into any given community we visit.

The Art IS the People Who Interact With It

One of the coolest parts about Moby is that the art comes from the people who interact with the display. It could be a highly skilled muralist who traveled across the world just to Spray Moby, or it could be someone holding a can for the very first time. The people who interact with the art are the creators of Spray Moby.

I think it's really cool that anyone; a child, his grandmother, your professor, all of your classmates, could be the ones who have installations on Moby for a given period of time. There's only one rule, that nothing stays forever on Moby.

Why does nothing stay forever on Moby?

Nothing stays forever because the point of Moby is to be a moving changing expression of human condition from city to city. Any artist can interact with Moby, and we want to keep it broad and evolving. To say one piece gets to stay up longer than another is to say there is a judge, and we will try to maintain as neutral of canvas as possible.

It grants any artist the space to let their ego and vision take control. To be relinquished of limitations based on requests from the owner of the wall and to fully release expectations for a given work in to step into an artist's full potential for creating. Artists free from restrictions create beautiful art. I hope Moby is a long lasting canvas for beautiful art.
